Petition for the Twin Sisters in the Serapeum at Memphis (P.Lond. I 35, UPZ I 53, TM 3444)
Scope & Content:
Petition to the hypodioiketes Sarapion from Ptolemaeus, recluse in the Serapeum of Memphis for eleven years, requesting the payment of the allowance of bread, which had fallen into arrears, to the twin sisters Taous and Tages. Papyrus 24 verso is a copy of the same petition.

Papyrus sheet of light colour, damaged by holes in places, especially along the left edge; written on both sides; the front bears 31 lines written along the fibres; the back has one word written along the fibres in the upper left corner. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass frame, with an opening on the back showing the writing.

Papyrus sheet, complete, with worm-holes and surface damage in places; written on both sides. The text on the front runs along the fibres; there is one column of 25 lines, the last three of which are obliterated; in the lower left corner there are 3 additional lines. Margins are extant, the upper and right being minimal. A sheet-join runs from top to bottom along the left edge. The back contains 5 lines written along the fibres at the top; after some blank space there are one column of 3 lines on the left and 1 line in the middle; additional lines are written across the fibres, 2 of which run into the lines at the top. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.

Light-brown papyrus sheet, with a darker patch in the lower half, complete, displaying holes throughout and damaged in the upper right corner; written on both sides along the fibres, the back bearing one word. On the front there is one column of 32 lines, complete; all margins are extant, with the lower and right being minimal. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass case with the exception of a small window on the back, which shows the writing.

Light-brown papyrus sheet, darker in places, complete, with some surface damage and somewhat torn at the edges; written on both sides, along the fibres on the front and across them on the back. On the front there is a column of 9 lines, complete, which occupy the upper half of the sheet; margins are extant, with the blank at the bottom measuring 95 mm. On the back, there are traces of one column, effaced. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in glass, with the exception of a small window on the back to show the writing.

There is one column of 35 lines, with wide top. Left and bottom margins; the right margin is irregular and occasionally minimal. A sheet-join runs from top to bottom at 55 mm from the right edge. Portion of the same magical handbook as P.Berol. inv. 5026, with an invocation to Apollo. The handbook continues with recipes for obtaining oracles and hymns. Homer’s Iliad I 37-41 is quoted; with marginal notes. On the back are portions of three lines from another text.

Four fragments from the same papyrus roll as P.Berol. inv. 5026, light-brown; written on both sides. On the front, there is one column of 47 lines along the fibres, with lines 1-23 lacking the beginnings; this column precedes the ones on the Berlin papyrus. Lines are uneven and of different length; the left margin is wide. Portions of 3 lines written along the fibres are visible on the back. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass frame, with a small opening on the back to show the writing.
