BREVIARY, of Ambrosian use, in Latin. Sixty-four leaves seem to be lost at the beginning. Contents:-(1) Calendar, with Milanese saints, followed by sundry notes and rubrics, benedictions, and a paschal table beginning in 1401. f. 2;-(2) De tempore, pais hiemalis, including saints, from Advent to Easter Eve. Imperfect, beg. with second Sunday in Advent. Colophon, "Explicit breviarium yemale." f. 10;-(3) "Hic modo incipit breviariuim estiuum...secundum usum ecclesie Mediolanensis": the pars aestivalis de tempore. f. 71. At f. 81 occurs the "ofitium letaniarum que fiunt tribus diebus post dominicam ascensionis primam," with the churches in Milan visited in the procession;-
(4) "Hie incipiunt festiuitates estiue": de sanctis, St. George- SS. Vitalis and Agricola. f. 95;-(5) Commune Sanctorum. f. 122; -(6) "Hic incipit ofitium cottidianis diebus dominicis [et ferialibus] dicendum." f. 127;-(7) "Incipit tabula ofitii ducendi diebus dominicis ab octaua Pentecosten usque ad S. Martinum." f. 113;-(8) "Hic incipit beroldinus id est ordo ducendi ofitium exceptatum scilicet matutinum misse et uespere de aduentu domini in ebdomada que est ante natiuitatern domini ut ignorantibus patefiat" (cf. also f. 15 b, "ordo beroldini"). f. 147;-(9) "Hie incipit antiphonarius yemalis [et estiuus] secundum usum archiepiscopalis ecclesie Mediolanensis." f. 149.-(10) "Hie incipiunt cantus qui dicuntur ad missam." f. 161;-(11) Orclo faciendi aquam benedictam, ad catheuminum faciendum, exorcismus sancti Ambrosii, etc. Imperfect by loss of two or more leaves at the end. f. 165;-(12) "Turme, et matutina et vespere mortuorum" (so colophon). Imperfect at the beginning. This is apparently the section mentioned at f. 8 b as 11 "agatapanus mortuorum," see also the general colophon below. At the end is a rubric "Hoc quippe defunctorum ofitium ad exemplum ofitii dominice passionis declarare decreuit Romana ecclesia," etc., then "Laus tibi sit, Christe, quoniam liber explicit iste. Deo gratias. aiiien." f. 166 b. General colophon, "Explicit istud breuiarium yemale et estiuum continens in se ofitia festiua. dominicalia. et ferialia per totum annum curentia. ac etiam omnes letanias que runt in anno. totusqllo agathapanus. et multe misse. cum secretis necessariis ad missam. et multa alia necessaria. que si quis uoluerit uidere et legere. poterit intrspicere et inueniet. Quod quidem breviarium scriptum inceptum et mediatum fuit per me presbiterum Antonium de Vbertis filium quondam domini magistri Antonii de Vbertis de loco Margino [now Margno] plebis Vallissaxime [Valsasina, above Bellano on the Lake of Como] Mediolanensis diocesis. ac beneficialem ecclesie sancte Marie de Valtorta. iam ellapsis viginti duobus annis. quod sum sanus corpore. licet propter fragilitatem humanam iam frigescens calore naturali. cum sim fere annorum quadraginta septem. ac finitum per me ipsum. anno domini curente millesimo quadringintesimo secundo. indictione decima. die veneris. xvii. mensis martii. hora vesperi. luna xiiii. claro tempore atque sufficienti pretio uictualium." f. 171. (c) Notes on the calendar, one dated 1480. f. 1 b. On the paper fly-leaves (ff. ii.-v.) is a note in a 19th cent. hand in Italian on the contents of the book, meaning of "agathapanus," etc. Vellum (except ff. vii. + 171. 6½ in. x 4½ in. A.D. 1402. Small coloured initials.
