Includes 69 drawings, mostly in pencil, with some pencil and wash, and one in watercolour, and one in gouache, depicting coastal landforms, headlands, and bays of Cook's first voyage (1768-1770), at Brazil, Chile, French Polynesia, Australia and New Zealand.
Thirty-two of the artworks were executed by Alexander Buchan, thirty-six were created by Herman Diedrich Spöring, and one is by an unknown draftsman, possibly also Herman Diedrich Spöring.
Many of the drawings are comprised of multiple parts to depict the panoramic views, and are mounted as the assembled view, or otherwise in sections.
At the end of the volume Add MS 15507, f 70 and Add MS 15507, f 71 are log extracts and memo notes, relating Cook's first and third voyages.
Add MS 15507, f 6b was previously removed from the volume before reinstating, for an exhibition, 22 January 2014.
Ink inscription at the front of the guard volume: 'Drawings of Headlands, etc, made by A buchan Draughtsman to Mr Banks [striken through] various Hands in Cook's first voyage 1768-1771'; in pencil below: 'Transferred from the Print Room by Order of the Committee, 5th April, 1845'.Pencil inscription at the back of the volume: 'Examined after binding, Oct 1965'.

Drawings in pencil, wash, watercolour and gouache, and ink inscriptions, on paper, mounted in a bound guard folio volume.
The drawings are adhered to the guard folio sheets, and where there is content on the verso of items, the guard folio sheet has been window cut to reveal inscriptions.

The artwork and manuscript inscriptions are currently mounted within a guard folio volume organised by Joseph Banks, and may be subject to conservation and a revised arrangement in future.
