EDWARD LEAR, 'History of the Seven Families of the Lake Pipplepopple', a nonsense story, 'Written & illustrated for Lady Charlotte [Mary] & the Hon bles [William] Hugh [Spencer] & [William] Reginald Wentworth- Fitzwilliam' [children of William, 6th Earl Fitzwilliam]; Nice, Feb. 1865. Autograph. Apparently the original draft, first published (with some verbal differences) in Nonsense Songs, Stories, Botany, and Alphabets, 1871, pp. 54-73. Davidson, Edward Lear, 1938, pp. 210, 211). ff. 9-34;-(2) Illustrated version of the nursery rhyme, 'Highdiddle-diddle', n.d. First published, in facsimile, by Constance, Lady Strachie, in Query Leary Nonsense, 1911, pp. 48-49; the original was then in the possession of Mrs W. Vaughan (Miss Madge Symonds) and was believed to have been made for her eldest sister, Janet Symonds, having been preserved by Mrs John Addington Symonds, her mother (op. cit., p.21). f.35.
