Mr and Mrs Philip Casebourne Collection: Assam snapshots.
- Scope & Content:
-
Photographs mounted on album leaves, erratically captioned. The collection consists of the pages of two disbound photograph albums of personal snapshots. In addition to the photographs the collections contains two books on the Assam tea industry, Tea tales of Assam by W. Kenneth Warren and an Indian Tea Association publication entitled Tea progresses, miscellaneous letters and a farewell address to Philip Casebourne, and a biographical note on the Casebournes written by an English friend of their retirement, N.G. Nightingale. From this we learn that Philip C. Casebourne (1900-1979) was Superintendent of the Doom Doomha Tea Estates from 1935 until his retirement in 1952. They are described in the note as 'leaders of Doom Doomha society' and Philip Casebourne was a 'noted horseman and polo-player and a keen fisherman. His wife Peggy died in 1982 and their ashes are buried in the churchyard at Wetherden near Stowmarket.
