An illustrated Korean manuscript of volume 32 (part of Chapter 25) of the 'Buddhāvatamsaka-mahāvaipula Sūtra' or 'Avatamsaka Sūtra' [Flower Garland Sutra], one of the major texts of the Chinese Huayuan (Korean: Hwaŏm) school of Buddhism.
The manuscript has no colophon and is undated but on stylistic grounds is believed to be from the early Chosŏn period.

Materials: Gold pigment on paper.
Format: Folded concertina-style with 58 pages or folds of which the frontispiece occupies 4 pages and the text 54 pages. Each text page consists of 6 columns of 17 characters. A border composed of a thin inner and broad outer gold band marks the extent of the text block and the columns are separated by thin gold lines.
Dimensions: 325 x 6380 mm. Each page measures 325 x 110 mm. The frontispiece measures 215 x 440 mm. The text block is 210 mm tall with a wide upper margin (70 mm) and narrow lower margin (450 mm).
Illustrations: A frontispiece in gold pigment depicting the Buddha preaching to an audience of boddhisattvas and monks.
Binding: The covers are of unsized paper coloured indigo and decorated with 4 floral medallions set in a gold border. The front cover bears a rectangular panel bearing the title along with the character 'chu' 周, number 101 in the Chinese 'Thousand Character Classic' as a reference to the lacquer box in which the manuscript was to be stored.
