Circumstances of acquisition unrecorded. The picture is first mentioned as no.65 in the 1906 edition of Foster (‘A Descriptive Catalogue of the Paintings, Statues etc. in the India Office’) suggesting that it was acquired sometime between then and the date of the previous edition in 1902.
Inscribed in Persian: ‘shabih-i sultan jahangir vaqt-i javani’ (a likeness of the emperor Jahangir in the time of his youth).
Gouache with gold; borders of gold decoration.
