Presented by Temple’s son, Sir Richard Carnac Temple, 1922
Temple served in the I.C.S. 1847-80. His early years were spent in the Punjab and Central Provinces. Resident, Hyderabad 1867: Foreign Secretary, Government of India 1868; Financial Member of Council 1868-74; Lieutenant-Governor Bengal,1874-77; Governor of Bombay 1877-80. He was a scholar and keen amateur artist.
