Lieutenant-General Sir Eyre Coote (1726-83), Commander-in-Chief in the East Indies, 1769-70 and 1777-83. Made 1788.
Full length figure in full-dress military costume wearing the ribbon of the Bath. In his right hand he holds a drawn sword; the left is on his brest. Face turned to the right.

Inscribed: ‘Sir Eyre Coote, K.B. Anno MDCCLXXXVIII’
Commissioned by the East India Company, 1784
The placing of a statue of Sir Eyre Coote in the General Court Room was resolved upon at the same meeting which approved the erection of a monument to his memory in Westminster Abbey (General Court, 28 April, 1784). Banks was commissioned to execute both the statue and the memorial. He appears to have been paid £1,066 17s, the final payment being made on 10 July 1793.
