One of two large volumes [with 6272] in folio, of --- folios. Being the autograph MS of the the Recherches curienses des Manmoyes de France”, by Francis le Blanc, from the reign of Philip le Bel, A.D., 1285, to the reign of Louis the Fourteenth, A.D, 1656, illustrated with drawings and engravings of coins.
Both volumes (formerly bound in four) were bought at the sale of the library of Richard Gough, Esqure of Enfield, April, 1810, who had them from the collection of Sir Charles Frederick, Bart, by whom they had been purchased from Le Blanc’s widow. The Author Alluedfs to this work in the Preface to his “Traite’ Historique des Monmoyes de France”. 4to [quarto], Par[is], 1690. “Si je vois que cet ouvrage soit bien reçue, je donneray dans un autre volume le Traite’ des Monmoyes des Seigneurs particuliers, qui en faisoient batter en France, par permission du Roy. La de’peuse qu’il ma falu faire pour metre u volume cy au jour, est un peu trop forte pour hazarder cette d’un second, sans voir le succe’s du premier”. Le Blanc did not live to finish his design, his death taking place six years afterwards, in 1698.
