- Scope & Content:
-
Volume of larger collection of sixty-six volumes [6277 to 6342] acquired from Lady Banks, this volume relating to: the legacy and commemoration of Anne of Bretagne, with illuminations.
The first portion of the work is written in verse, and consists of the author’s address, and the Geneology of Anne of Bretagne (daughter of Francis I Duke of Bretagne); Then follows a minute account of her decease (which took place 9 January, 1513) and the ceremonial of her funeral, illustrated by many curious illuminations. Interspersed are “plusiers Rondeaulx”, made by Maistre André de la Vugne, in honor of the departed Queen, and at the end an Epitaph on her, copied 1 June, 1514, at the Abbey of St Denis, by Bretaigne, the deceased Queen’s Herald, and composer (probably also the writer) of the MS. The Arms, Supporters, and motto of the deceased are at the beginning and end of the volume.
At the commencement is inserted a note in a modern hand, relative to Anne of Bretagne, who was successively Queen of Charles VIII, and Louis XII.
