Part (جزء) one (containing entries in letters ا through ز) of the most influential and important Arabic handbook of materia medica, written by the Andalusian botanist Ḍiyā’ al-Dīn Abū Muḥammad ʻAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad (ضياء الدين أبو محمد عبد الله بن أحمد; d. 1248), known as Ibn al-Bayṭār (ابن البيطار), Chief Herbalist (رئيس العشابين) to the Ayyubid sultan al-Malik al-Kāmil (الملك الكامل, reg. 1218-38). The book is here called The Compendium of the Strengths of Drugs and Nutriments (الجامع لقوى الأدوية والأغذية, see title page, f. 1r, line 4), but it is also commonly known as The Compendium of Simple Drugs and Nutriments (الجامع لمفردات الأدوية والأغذية).
The copy was completed Thursday 15 Shawwāl 852/12 December 1448 by al-Ḥājj ʻAlī ibn Aḥmad ibn Ḥasan al-Shalabī (الحاج علي ابن أحمد ابن حسن الشلبي, see colophon, f. 309r, lines 17-18, transcribed below).
Folios 310v contains a brief biographical sketch of Ibn al-Bayṭār.

زيزفون اسم دمشقي أولها زاي مفتوحة بعدها ياء باثنتينس من تحتها
ساكنة بعدها زاي أخرى مفتوحة ثم فاء مضمومة ثم واو ساكنة
بعدها نون اسم للنوع الذي لايثمر من شجر الغبيرا بدمشق وسيأتي
ذكر الغبيرا في حرف الغين المعجمة إن شاء الله تعالى
