Imprint: Buyō [Edo] , Hiranoya Kichibē, Genroku 13, 1700. Kanki following fol. 26b of maki 3 下 reads: 元禄十三庚辰孟春吉辰 / 武陽城北書林 / 平野屋吉兵衛板.
Description: 3 kan, 5 satsu, in a box. (Satsu 1) ff. 8 (序), 12 (maki 1) ; (2) ff. 22 (maki 2) ; (3) ff. 21 (maki 3 之上) ; (4) ff. 1-12 (maki 3 之下) ; (5) ff. 13-26 (maki 3 之下). 22.9 x 16.3 cm. Fukurotoji.
Blockprint. Printing frame 18.5 x 13.9 cm. (average). Single-line borders. No fishtail design on hanshin.
Hiragana-majiri text without furigana. 11 lines to page, 23-25 characters to line.
Pale green covers, possibly original, but overpainted with a design of pine trees and cloud-bands on front, and arching grasses on back covers. Title slips survive, centrally placed, on satsu 2-5, but title is handwritten on satsu 1. Printed gedai: Nashinomotoshū 梨のもと集. Title from naidai at head of each maki. Hashiragaki: Nashinomoto 梨本 + maki no. + folio no.
Edition: The only recorded pre-modern edition.
Contents: A critical work on waka poetical theory, refuting the conservative views of earlier writers and poets, notably the Nijō 二條 family, who sought to limit the vocabulary and range of waka poetry. The author, Toda Mosui, quotes numerous writings in support of his critical views.

Condition: Very good. A few folios slightly soiled, but no worm damage.
Impression: Shozuri, both text and illustrations.
Illustrations: A total of 11 double-page sumizuri illustrations; 3 in satsu 1, 2 each in satsu 2-5. In each case the subject-matter of the picture continues from recto to verso of the same folio. Each illustrated folio is numbered the same as the text folio preceding it, together with the character 'mata' 又. The artist is not named.
Seals of ownership: Large square red seal, 伊参文庫所蔵, on first page of each satsu.
Manuscript notes: A sheet of thin paper, quoting a reference from the work Kinsei kijinden 近世畸人傳, maki 5, has been pasted on the mikaeshi of maki 1.
