Description: 10 kan, formerly in 2 satsu, now rebound in 1 vol. western style. 27.1 x 19.8 cm. Fukurotoji.
Blockprint. Printing frame 21.7 x 16.7 cm. Single-line borders all round. Fishtail design on hanshin.
Kanbun text, with printed kutōten but no kunten. 8 lines to page (large ji-本文), 16 lines to page (small ji-註釈), 17 characters to line. Large, bold kaisho script, with thick black strokes for 本文.
Original off-white front cover of satsu 1 only, with original title slip printed on silk, bearing gedai: 論語集註. Hashiragaki: Shisho shūchū rongo 四書集註 論語 + maki no. + folio no. Text paper: kōzo, dyed pale yellow. In a western style half-leather binding.
Edition: Undated blockprint, late-17th century. Although only stated in the hashiragaki, this work is part of a set of commentaries on the four Confucian classics entitled Shisho shūchū 四書集註.
Contents: Text of the Confucian Analects with commentary by Zhu Xi, drawing on the opinions of classical scholars of the Song period. This commentary contrasts sharply with the traditional interpretations of earlier periods.
