Description: 3 kan, 1 satsu, rebound in western style. (1) ff. 8 (preface), 20; (2) ff. 19; (3) ff. 21. 25.8 x 18.4 cm. Fukurotoji.
Blockprint. Printing frame 22.1 x 17.2 cm. Single-line borders round text and commentary; within this frame, single-line borders round text in large kanji. Printed hanshin with fishtail design on lower part of folio only.
Kanbun text with printed kunten and kaeriten. 18 lines (commentary) to page, 32-33 characters to line.
Original yellow covers (repaired), within a western style cloth binding. Original title slip on left, with printed gedai: (首書 at head of title) 金剛經略疏. Naidai: Kongō ryakusho 金剛略疏. Hashiragaki: the same + maki no. and folio no.
Edition: Bussho kaisetsu daijiten 仏書解説大辞典 records two earlier editions in 1 kan dated Jōō 2 (1653) and Enpō 6 (1678), and also this undated edition in 3 kan with 首書 at head of title. The publisher, also known as Akitaya Ichibē 秋田屋市兵衞, was active from c. Genroku period onwards.
Contents: Text of the Kongō hannya haramitsukyō 金剛般若波羅蜜經 (Skt. Vajracchedikā-prajñāpāramitā-sūtra), with explanatory commentary and interpretation written from a highly personal standpoint by the Chinese monk Yuanxian in the Ming period.
