Imprint: [Nara] , Tōdaiji 東大寺, Kenchō 4 建長四年, 1252. Full-page kango on last folio verso reads: 廣令流布一乗教理普為弘通三論宗義 ／ 敬開一巻遊意欲傳諸方道俗願以此功徳 ／ 久護持正法六趣衆生皆發大心三界群類 ／ 悉到覺岸焉于時建長四年壬子十月七日 ／ 東大寺戒壇院沙門聖守謹題.
Description: 1 kan, 1 jō. ff. [87] (unnumbered) + [1] blank leaf at end. 25.4 x 16.2 cm. Detchō 粘葉binding.
Blockprint, printed on both sides of leaf. Printing frame 21 x 15 cm. No borders.
Kanbun text with some manuscript kunten in black katakana and kutōten in red, added not long after date of publication. 7 lines to page, 20 characters to line.
Dark brown covers, not original but renewed c. Keichō period. No title slip or gedai. Title from naidai at head of text on fol. 1a.
Edition: Tōdaiji-ban 東大寺版, first edition. Publication supervised by Shōju 聖守 (1219-91), priest-in-charge of the Kaidan'in 戒壇院 and a central figure in Tōdaiji Buddhist scholarship in the Kamakura period. Shōju was responsible for publishing at least five other works at the Tōdaiji, ranging in date from 1251 to 1276.
Contents: A general introduction to the Hoke-kyō 法華經 (Lotus Sutra) and its teachings, written by the Chinese monk Jizang, c. 600-20.
