Autograph journal compiled by Alice Rooker in the late 19th century. The journal consists primarily of letters written to notable literary, political and social figures of the 19th century, pasted into the volume, along with some fragments cut from larger letters or documents and pasted in. Many of the autographs are drawn from letters written to Charles Wentworth Dilke in his role as editor of the Athenaeum magazine. Notable autographs collected include Kings George III and George IV, Henry Temple, 3rd Viscount Palmerston, Louis Blanc, Thomas Carlyle and William Makepeace Thackeray.
The volume also includes two autographs or letters in Chinese scripts, two banknotes from the French Revolutionary period, and a loose note on costs for the purchase of further autographs.
