Swayambhu, the Self-Created or Self-Existent, is one of the most venerated and sacred Buddhist sites. Set on a hillock, west of Kathmandu City, it is reputedly the oldest settlement in the Kathmandu valley surrounded by several smaller shrines and temples.
Changu Narayan Temple is one of the most celebrated Vaishnava shrine in the valley, whose origin dates back to the fourth century AD. The temple is built on a high ridge with a view of the Himalayas to the North, and the Valley to the South.
