Scope & Content:
The file documents 2 routes in western Chihli [直隸] and north-eastern Shansi [山西] provinces. Part of the latter area has since been transferred to Inner Mongolia [内蒙古].
The sheets show hydrology, relief, communications, and numbered settlements. Place-names in Wade-Giles romanisation have been selectively added in pencil.
The lists provide a key, in non-standard romanisation, to the numbered settlements on the maps. Characters have been added to most of the names, and correct Wade-Giles romanisation has been added to some of these.
