Bainbridge Papers. Vols. xxii-xxv. 'An Awfully Big Adventure'; 1950-circa 1990. An Awfully Big Adventure was first published in 1989, by Duckworth. Bainbridge adapted the novel for the Liverpool Playhouse, where it was staged in 1992, directed by Ian Kellgren. In 1995 a film of the same title was released, directed by Mike Newell and based on Bainbridge's novel. For material related to the play, see Add. 83780.
Bainbridge Papers. Vols. xxix-xxxi. 'Every Man for Himself'; 1994-1996. The novel Every Man for Himself was initially entitled 'Kiss Me Hardy' and was first published in 1996, by Duckworth. 'Kiss Me Hardy' was also the title of a short story published in Bainbridge's Collected Stories in 1994. Add. 83757-83759 relate to the novel.

The novel was later rewritten with characters bearing different names and published in 1981 by Duckworth as A Weekend with Claude. For draft sections of A Weekend with Claud, see Add. 83796.
Bainbridge Papers. Vols. l-li. 'Young Adolf'; before 1979. Young Adolf was first published in 1978 by Duckworth and was later used as the basis for 'The Journal of Bridget Hitler', which was transmitted on BBC2 in 1981.
Bainbridge Papers. Vols. liv-lv. 'The Bottle Factory Outing'; circa 1980–1991. The Bottle Factory Outing was first published as a novel in 1974, by Duckworth. This work was used as the basis for screenplays by Terence Heffernan and by Alan Plater. Neither work has been produced to date [2007].
