Title:
Letter of Introduction from the Archive of Zenon (P.Lond. VII 2026, TM 1588)
Scope & Content:
Asclepiades writes to Zenon to introduce the bearer of the letter, Philon, and asks that assistance be offered to him, as he is worthy of Zenon’s consideration. The address is on the back, and possibly the date, which is smudged.

Extent:
Medium-brown papyrus sheet, complete and overall well preserved, with holes in the centre and slight damage along the folds; bearing writing on both sides. On the front, there are 18 lines written along the fibres; all margins are extant, the right being minimal. On the back, there is a word written along the fibres to the left of the centre, and traces of smudged letters at the left-hand edge, possibly deleted, followed by an alpha. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.

Asclepiades asks Zenon to offer his assistance to the bearer of the letter, Erasis, who is a relative and friend of his, and who is bringing his nephew for the measuring out of some land. The address is on the back.

Medium-brown papyrus sheet, of lighter colour in places, complete and overall well preserved, slightly damaged at the edges; bearing writing on both sides. On the front, there are 8 lines written across the fibres; all margins are extant. On the back, there is a word written along the fibres upside down in relation to the text on the front, and traces of two lines, perhaps off-sets. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.
