1. Papyrus 1016

Receipt issued by Flavius Ioannes to Phoebammon for the payment of thirteen artabas of wheat as rent for the four aruras of land he is leasing; with Ioannes’ subscription at the end.

Extent:
Mid-dark brown papyrus slip, abraded in places, especially at the top; with some holes and surface damage along the folds; written on one side, the back being blank. The front bears 7 lines written across the fibres. Margins are extant and minimal, with the left being irregular as lines 2-7 are indented. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass frame.

Portion of a one-year agreement concerning land to be ploughed and irrigated with the animals of the contractor; he shall receive wages for the work in addition to a sum of money for renting some of his animals. Medium-brown papyrus sheet, broken off at the top, complete on the other sides; riddled with insect holes and other surface damage; bearing writing on one side. The back is blank. On the front, there are 23 lines from the foot of a column written along the fibres; lower, right and left margins are minimal. Folding lines are still visible. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass frame.
