Man and woman of the ‘Buljavar’ caste; the man holds a sword and the woman betel leaves. Inscribed: ‘The Costume of the Buljavar or Gentoo Caste’;’ the present Rajah of Mysore is of this tribe.’
Cultivator and wife; the man carries a plough and the woman a stick and betel leaves. Inscribed: ‘The Ryot or husbandan, bearing a plough in the Carnatic, which makes but little impression on the soil.’
Oil-seller and wife; the man carries a basket of pots on his head and the woman has a smal pot and measure. Inscribed: ‘The Tailee or Oil-Monger tribe. This class as well as all Mechanics, wear a Cotton thread over the left shoulder.’
