In the centre of the sarcophagus, on a shield, are half-figures of the husband and wife interred in it. Around this sepulchral chamber is a podium, with small arched recesses, for the cinerary urns or vases (?).'

Scope & Content:
The small figure in the centre represents the defunct; the group at the end is a subject from the amphitheatre; a lion, stimulated by the bestiarius or keeper, devours a wild boar. In the third and fourth centuries mythological subjects were almost abandoned.'
