Bainbridge Papers. Vols. xii-xiii. 'Filthy Lucre, or The Tragedy of Ernest Ledwhistle and Richard Soleway'; 1946-before 1986. 'Filthy Lucre' was originally written by Bainbridge in 1946. The novel was first published in 1986, by Duckworth, with illustrations based on those from her original version and was later included in Bainbridge's Collected Stories, published by Penguin in 1994.
Bainbridge Papers. Vols. xxii-xxv. 'An Awfully Big Adventure'; 1950-circa 1990. An Awfully Big Adventure was first published in 1989, by Duckworth. Bainbridge adapted the novel for the Liverpool Playhouse, where it was staged in 1992, directed by Ian Kellgren. In 1995 a film of the same title was released, directed by Mike Newell and based on Bainbridge's novel. For material related to the play, see Add. 83780.
Bainbridge Papers. Vols. xxix-xxxi. 'Every Man for Himself'; 1994-1996. The novel Every Man for Himself was initially entitled 'Kiss Me Hardy' and was first published in 1996, by Duckworth. 'Kiss Me Hardy' was also the title of a short story published in Bainbridge's Collected Stories in 1994. Add. 83757-83759 relate to the novel.
