FORBES PAPERS. Vols. XI-XIV. Transcripts, made by Forbes, of State Papers in the Paper Office, and in the Cotton MSS., British Museum, temp. Elizabeth. The volumes were used by the editors of the Calendars of State Papers, Foreign Series.
Draft minutes and reports of General and Committee Meetings of the Trustees, 17 Dec. 1753-6 Aug. 1756, taken by Birch. Among the subjects are the purchase for £20,000 of Sir Hans Sloane's collection from his executors, the housing of that, and the Harley, Cotton and other libraries, the acquisition and refitting of Montagu House, and the general business of the Museum. At the end are a few memoranda by Birch on the above subjects.
FORBES PAPERS. Vols. VI, VII (ff. 309, 407). Lists of state letters and papers in public and private libraries, relating to the times of Queen Elizabeth, many of which are in Forbes's hand.
ROYAL SOCIETY PAPERS. Letters relating to the transactions of the Royal Society addressed chiefly to Thomas Birch and other secretaries, or to successive Presidents, or to the Society itself as a body. Some refer to papers and communications included in Add. MSS. 4432-4441. The names of the writers are to be found in the Index of the present Catalogue. Two volumes (not arranged in strict order of date); 1663-1765.
THORESBY PAPERS. Vols. II, III. Letters, etc., of English divines and learned men, placed in rough alphabetical order, each letter of the alphabet having a double arrangement of (a) Church dignitaries and (b) Nonconformist ministers. Latin and English.
