Minutes of four meetings of the Secret Department, Members: John Spencer, Charles Stafford Playdell, John Johnstone, Ralph Leycester, John Burdett and George Gray. The consultations relate to the consequences of the death of the Nawab of Bengal.

The deliberations concern relations with Shuja ud-Daula and includes copies of the treaty between Shuja ud-Daula and the Company and the grant of the diwani of Bengal, Bahar and Orissa and related firmaunds.

Scope & Content:
The proceedings include copies of correspondence with Messrs. Duffield and Robertson, minutes of meetings and copies of notarised statements made by Duffield and Robertson. The claims arose out of the aftermath of the batta mutiny.
