In 1895, the Secretary of State for India secured the tenancy of Dorchester House in Park Lane London for the visit of Amir of Afghanistan's son Shahzada Nasrullah Khan.
In 1890, the India Office leased 800 acres of ground with buildings in the parishes of Winkfield, Easthampstead and Sandhurst Berkshire from the Crown. The land was to be used as a forest training ground.
