Letter from Hypatius to Senuthius (ZPE 216 (2020), pp. 251-255, P.Lond. III 1300 descr., TM 39616)
Scope & Content:
Fragmentary letter from Hypatius to Senuthius on various business matters, mentioning, among other things, a large payment for milk, a man from the tribe of Yasad and various requisitions, and informing the recipient of the dispatch of a slave; with address on the back.

Left-hand portion of a light-to-medium-brown papyrus sheet, originally c. 340 mm wide; damaged along the horizontal folds and with few holes; written on both sides. The front bears the beginnings of 9 lines running across the fibres, fairly spaced; upper, lower and left margins are extant, the left being minimal. A sheet-join runs from left to right under line 3. The back bears the end of one line written along the fibres at the top of the sheet. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.

Contract for the sale of 2400 barrels for future delivery, purchased through a priest by a church in the Hermopolite nome, from Aurelius Colluthus, son of Pheus, potter of the village of Phby. With docket on the back.

Papyrus sheet, medium-brown, complete on the left, broken off at the bottom and right, damaged at the top; with few insect holes in places; written on both sides. The front bears 9 lines running along the fibres, all lacking the ends, with a small trace of a tenth line at the bottom. Additional traces are visible in the upper left corner. The left (15 mm) and partly the upper (20 mm) margins survive. Folding lines are still visible. On the back, there is one line running along the fibres and lacking the end. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.

Order from Flavius Demeas, lawyer (scholasticus) and public advocate (ekdikos), to Artemidorus to deliver 12 artabas of wheat to three persons, and receive a money payment from them. On the back there are traces of an account, unpublished.

The back bears traces of one column; on the front, there are 7 lines, the last mutilated. Part of a sheet-join running along the width of the sheet is visible in the lower edge. Beginning of a two-year lease of non-irrigated land located in the village of Ision Sesembythis, in the Hermopolite nome, the lessee being Aurelius Solomon, son of Esaeus and Eus, from Hermopolis, and the lessor a subdeacon of the martyrium of St Cyriacus (his name is lost).

Fragmentary will of a woman of Hermopolis whose name is lost, who appoints Agathocles as her executor; written by Aurelius Taurinus, son of Ioseph, as the testatrix is illiterate; with subscriptions of seven witnesses at the end.

Fragmentary papyrus sheet, dark-brown, broken off at the top and right, with insect holes and abrasion; written on one side across the fibres, the back being blank. There are 24 lines from the foot of a column, all lacking the ends, for a loss of 15-19 letters per line. The left and lower margins are extant and measure 20 and 80 mm respectively. The papyrus was folded up from bottom to top; mounted on cardboard in a glass frame.

Long and narrow papyrus slip, pale-brown, complete, with minor surface damage in places, especially in the upper part. Writing runs along the fibres on one side, the back being blank; there are 13 complete lines, which occupy less than the upper half of the sheet; margins are extant, with the side and upper being minimal. The blank space at the bottom measures 180 mm and bears ink along the right edge. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass frame.

Portion of a papyrus roll, made up of two sheets, the upper sheet (front) displaying horizontal fibres and the lower vertical fibres; darkened throughout, broken off at the bottom (front) and with insect holes and surface damage. It is written on both sides across the fibres. The front bears 18 lines, with two interlinear additions and a speck of another line at the bottom; the blank space at the top measures 105 mm; side margins survive. On the back there are two columns written across the fibres; the margins survive. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.
