Title:
Lease of Land (P.Lond. III 1006, TM 22776)
Scope & Content:
Beginning of a contract for a five-year lease of 1 ¼ aruras of uninundated land for the annual rent of 1 and 1/3 solidi minus 8 carats. The lessor is Aurelius Petrus and the lessee Aurelius Colluthus, both of the Hermopolite village of Nagogis. With docket on the back.

Papyrus sheet, darkened in places, broken off at the bottom and with minor surface damage throughout. Writing runs along the fibres on both sides, the back having a one-line docket. The front preserves 17 lines, complete, and traces of another line at the bottom; side and upper margins are minimal. The papyrus is housed in a glass case.

Receipt acknowledging the payment of seven artabas and a half of wheat made by Petrus, son of Pinution, on account of the grain-tax (embole).

Papyrus sheet, complete but with surface damage and few insect holes; written on one side along the fibres, the back being blank. There are 5 lines, somewhat defaced, which occupy the upper half of the sheet. All margins are extant, with the blank space at the bottom measuring 90 mm. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.
