Address book (A-Z) containing an Assyrian word index. This notebook might be Talbot's first systematic notebook on Assyrian. The date of the latest entries might be much later than 1858.
Talbot: Notebook ('The standard inscription of Ashur-akh-bal')
Scope & Content:
Manuscript draft of 'The standard inscription of Ashur-akj-bal translated by H F Talbot FRS'. At the head of the first page, 'Vol VII' is written in pencil (not in Talbot's hand).
Almost all pages are cut out from this notebook (possibly because Talbot submitted them as a draft for a publication), leaving only two pages of notes with further notes written on the inside back cover. These comprise a draft of an introduction for a translation of either the Taylor or the Belli...
The notebook contains translation notes on an Assyrian cuneiform text. Many blank pages. On the inside front cover, Talbot has noted the address 13 Great Stuart Street, Edinburgh (a property purchased by Talbot in 1864/65).
