Man and woman of the Mariyamman cult; the man balances pots on his head and beats a drum, the woman also beats a drum. Inscribed: ‘The Poojaree’;’ or person appeasing the wrath of the Goddess Mariama who presides over Diseases.’
Bamboo mat-maker and wife; the man carries a knife and bamboo-mat basket on his head, the woman carries a hand punkah. Inscribed: ‘The Burrod tribe, or Bamboo Mat-Maker.’
Toddy-tapper and wife; the man carries a ladder, rope and earthen pot, the woman a pot of juice. Inscribed: ‘The Tansa, or Toddy man, the toddy is a favourite Indian beverage procured from the Cocoanut & Palmyra trees, & when fermented is very intoxicating.’
