Only the first part of the letter survives; in some cases the text breaks off mid paragraph, suggesting that other pages once existed, in others it is clear that no more of the letter was ever copied. Some are in Clive's handwriting.
Letters to Sir Henry Strachey from Clive upon various subjects including the reform of the Company and Clive's appointment as Lord Lieutenant of the County of Shropshire.
The memorandum outlines the causes of the war with Siraj ud-Daula and focuses particularly upon the reason for the loss of Calcutta and apportions blame. Some pagers have been cut off at the end of the document.
