The majority of the texts are in his own handwriting. The drafts of Clive's parliamentary speech defending his own conduct in Bengal seem to have been made in tandem since both contain amendments which do not appear in the other copy.

The speech was made in response to Laurence Sulivan's announcement of his intention to introduce a parliamentary bill designed to improve British justice there.
A similar defence; folios 38-50 are not included in the defence to the Court of Directors and deal with the second article of the charge (frauds in coinage and exchange).
