The original is mentioned by Pliny. The many copies extant of it shew how much it was admired by the ancients. It is a good deal restored, and is from the Galleria Ruspoli. (Greek style).

It is believed by some to have been found in the Esquiline near the ruins called Minerva Medica, or according to others, near the Church of S. Maria sopra Minerva. Half of the right arm is restored.'
