Triplicate copy of Clive's defence against the third article of the charge brought against him.
Scope & Content:
Refuting the charge that Clive monopolised salt, betel nut and tobacco and other commodities contrary to the orders of the Court of Directors and thus caused the Bengal famine.
A list of outlays made prior to Clive's embarkation to India.
Scope & Content:
The expenses are to individuals and to the purchase of numerous items such as wine and clothes. It is not absolutely certain that the second folio is linked to the first, but seems likely.
Payment authorisation to Sir Francis Gosling, Robert Gosling and George Clive from John Kelsall.
Scope & Content:
The sum is to be paid to the Earl of Ancram upon Clive's account. Possibly a cheque, as all the criteria appear to be met and the text has been faintly crossed through in red ink.
