The letter is conveying William Bruce's disappointment regarding the poor prospects for the sale of the wool he dispatched to Bussora [Basra], but explains that the political situation at Bushire is not likely to stabilise enough in the short term to allow its return.

The letter consists of orders to escort the Wasp as far as Muscat, where the Lieutenant is instructed to enquire after the fate of the Sylph; should he learn that the vessel has been taken by the Joasemee [Qāsimī] Arabs he should demand its return along with the Deria Dowlut.
