Dated at Calcutta, reporting on the situation in Bengal since his last letter. The letter is either in his own hand or in Strachey's. The text in both copies has been significantly amended, and one version includes most of the changes made in the other.

Scope & Content:
Dated at Fort William, authorising him to receive several officers, including William Vertue, on board for passage to Europe. Although not expressly stated, the implication is that all the parties returning to Europe were involved in the mutiny. The copy was made by the author.
