Golden Temple (kwa bahal). Situated in Patan, this temple was founded in the 12th century, and it has existed in its current form since 1409. It gets its name from the gilded metal plates that cover most of its frontage. Inside the shrine is an image of Shakyamuni Buddha.
Swayambhu, the Self-Created or Self-Existent, is one of the most venerated and sacred Buddhist sites. Set on a hillock, west of Kathmandu City, it is reputedly the oldest settlement in the Kathmandu valley surrounded by several smaller shrines and temples.
Changu Narayan Temple is one of the most celebrated Vaishnava shrine in the valley, whose origin dates back to the fourth century AD. The temple is built on a high ridge with a view of the Himalayas to the North, and the Valley to the South.
Dharahara or the Bhimsen Tower was built during the 19th century by Prime Minister Bhimsen Thapa. The tower imitating the Mughal minarets was erected just outside the Kathmandu city walls, where it dominated the city skyline. The tower was originally eleven storeys and was damaged in the 1934 ea...
