King Edward grants two hides (cassati) or sulungs at West Cliffe, Kent, to Æthelred, optimas: 1042 × 1044, with English bounds (Sawyer, no. 1044). Endorsed in a 12th-century hand, ‘Rex eduuardus optimati suo. duos cassatos apud cliue.’ and ‘.latine.’
