POEMS, and other pieces, by Gilles de Muisis, Abbot of St. Martin's of Tournay; transcribed from the original MS. formerly in Heber's Library, and now in the Bibliothèque Impériale, at Paris. The works are, as follows:-
" Ch'est li lamentations l'Abbé Gillion le Musit, ou tempore que notre Sires li avoit envoyet empaichement de se vewe, et que il avoit le lumiere des yoels couverte, si que vir les gene ne pooit, ne lire ne escrire," etc. ; composed in the year 1350, p. 1 ;-" Une orison dévote à la Virgene Marie, de lone temps faite," p. 82 ;-" Orisons faites en l'an MCCCXLIX. pour le maladie, dont li mortoilles fu en yceli an, que on appieloit Epidémie," p. 84;-" Che sont lea Méditations l'Abbé Gillion le Musit, chou qu'il a penset, ordenet, et fait escrire, et commencha à le Pasque, l'an mil trois cens et chincquante, qui fu li anée del indulgence général," p. 93 .-Poem containing reflexions on the manners of the clergy, and other subjects; with a prologue prefixed, in prom, p. 123 Historical notices of the Abbey of St. Martin of Tournay, and of its ancient customs and religious observances, in prose; with a prologue by the author, stating that he commenced the work in May 1350, when he was 78 years old,
and bad been 19 years Abbot, p. 144:-"Ch'est li comencemens, pour les noirs moinco, et pour chiaus qui sont del Ordenc Saint Benoit;" instructions for observing their rule, p. 159;-Exhortation to nuns, p. 227;-Poem addressed " As Abbés, as noirs moines, as nonnains ensement," p. 256 -"Chest des Ordenes qui ne sont mic rentées, quon appele Mandians, Augustine, Jacobins, Freres Mencuro, et toutes lee autres Ordenes Mandians," p. 263 ;-Poem on the Popes, from Celestin V., 1297, to Clement VI., 1342 ; with a prologue, p. 320 ;-" Cest des etas de tous prelas, exceptés no Saint Pere le Pappe, le Cardinauls, et le court de Romme," etc., p. 365 ;-" C'est des etas de toutes gene ecculere en général ;" treating of the vices prevailing in society generally, p. 419;-" Chest li complainte de Dames, et de demisielles,etdes femmes, que pour leur habis et leur maintiens dou temps present, dont on lea reprent et blamiscent," p. 571 ;-" Ch'est des maintiens dei; bommes, et chou qu'il doivent faire, comment au siecle voelent et leur femmes plaire " in the form of a dialogue with the Abbot, p. 613 ;-" Chest li loenge et li regrasciemens l'Abbet Gillion le Muysit à Dieu . . . de chou que li veuue li est recouvrée, qui avoit eatet aveulea trois ans et plus . . . se fu aidies par un maistre nommet Jehan de Meence, qui ouvra en ses yeulx d'un instrument d'argent, à maniere d'aguille . . . . l'an de grace MCCCLI. . . . . s'eot ausi se (sic) conclusions des coses qu'il a fait escrire," f. 629 -" Des gena de Sainteglise, et de leur estas on généal," p. 636 ;-" Des seculers et de leur estas en général," p. 642 ;-
