Blunt's memoir begins with his birth in Bournemouth (1907), and continues with an account of his life and career until his public exposure, in 1979, as a Soviet agent. In the Preface, Blunt states that he wrote the memoir for the benefit of the friends who had stood by him, and for those members of the public who wanted to read his version of events. In the course of the narrative, Blunt makes frequent and specific comments on the accuracy of earlier published accounts of his actions as an agent.
There are two files: the original draft, partly typewritten and partly in Blunt's hand; and a fair typewritten copy incorporating all revisions and autograph passages.
