Papers of Sir James Stonhouse (1716-1795), physician and cleric of Bristol. The collection includes some letters of Stonhouse's own hands, and some copies of letters and petitions relating to the affair of George Pigot (1719-1777), Governor of Madras, evoking the dispute on the restoration of the Raja of Tanjore in 1776-77, which eventually led to the imprisonment and death of Pigot.
