Autograph drafts by Blake of poems and prose (dating from c 1787 to 1818), with numerous sketches and designs, mostly in pencil, bound up with a partial copy (ff. 62-94) of ''All that is of any value in the foregoing pages'' by a former owner, Dante Gabriel Rossetti (added after 1847).
Pencil sketches and ink-and-wash drawings on ff. 3, 4, 4b, 6 and 7, attributed to the earliest owner of the notebook, Blake''s brother Robert (d. Feb. 1787).

Paper: ff. ii+94 quarto. Approximately 159 x 197mm. Gatherings i2, ii6, iii12 (wants 11 and 12), iv-vi12, vii4. Original order of first seven folios 3, 6, 8, 7, 4, 1, 2. Watermark of a Celtic shield, ff. 1-4, 6-59.
ff. 62-94 copied on feint-ruled paper of two stocks. f. 94 bears a countermark, 1884. Pencil pagination, 1-116. Part of the top right-hand corner of f. 37 cut away. f. 5, a fragment not included in the above collation and not part of the original notebook, formerly a paste-down on f. 4b. ff. 60 and 61, paginated 117-120, but not included in the above collation, originally part of a printed sheet from W. Hayley, Ballads, 1802.
The notebook was interleaved to protect it from rubbing, Rossetti''s binding reinforced and the present case of brown levant morocco constructed between 1928 and 1935.

- Presented by Blake''s widow in 1827 to William Palmer, brother of Blake''s pupil, Samuel Palmer, who sold it to Dante Gabriel Rossetti for ten shillings (note by Rossetti on f. ib), 30 Apr. 1847. Purchased by F. S. Ellis at Rossetti''s sale (T. G. Wharton, Martin & Co., 5 July 1882, lot 487) and by Ellis and Scruton at Ellis''s sale (Sotheby''s, 18 Nov. 1885, lot 608). Sold by Dodd, Mead and Co. of New York (f. ib) to William Augustus White (d. 1928) of Brooklyn, 26 Jan. 1887. Inherited by his daughter, Mrs Frances Hillard Emerson (d. 1957) of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
