Material: Parchment.
Foliation: ff 214 + v, v*. Two unfoliated paper flyleaves at the beginning of the manuscript (after f ii) and two at the end (after f 214, before f v*). f i is the paste-down on the inside front board. ff iii-v are fragments of the former binding, kept in the same box as the manuscript.
Dimensions: 215 x 140 mm.
Ruling: 150 x 95 mm, 24 lines per column.
Binding: 19th-century brown leather with gold tooling by F. Bedford; gilt edges. The former binding (16th-century stamped black leather) is preserved in the box containing the manuscript, and is now ff iii-v.
Decoration: 4 large headpieces in brown with geometric decoration at the beginning of Gospels (ff 1r, 58r, 97r, 164r). 3 smaller headpieces in brown with geometric decoration for tables (ff 57v, 96v, 214v). Initials in brown with penwork decoration, one anthropomorphic with a blessing hand (f 164r). Rubrics and notes in red.

Provenance:
John William Burgon (b. 1813, d. 1888), dean of Chichester and biblical scholar: inscription 'Liber Johannis Guilmi Burgon S. T. B. Decani Cicestr. AD. 1877 die sext. mensis Junii' (f i recto); printed notice in the Guardian about the manuscript by him from July 19, 1882 (pasted onto f i recto).

Purchased from Rev. W. F. Rose, 8 July 1893, by using the Farnborough Fund (£3,000 bequeathed in 1838 by Charles Long, Baron Farnborough (b. 1761, d. 1838), a cousin of Francis Henry Egerton, 8th Earl of Bridgewater (b. 1756, d. 1829), founder of the collection.
