Material: Parchment.

Foliation: ff 236. f 1 is a later paper addition. Six unfoliated paper flyleaves at the beginning and seven at the end.

Dimensions: 175 x 130 mm.

Ruling: 120 x 95 mm; written in two columns, 25 lines per column.

Binding: Brown leather, British Museum, 19th century. One wooden board from an earlier (15th-century?) binding survives and is kept separately as Add MS 24381/1.

Scribe: Μιχαὴλ (Repertorium 1A, 289): Cavallo 2000, p. 235.

Decoration: Illuminated miniatures at the beginning of each oration, most of which have been torn out. Only three survive, though in bad condition: f 2r, f 41v, f 52r. Initials and first lines in gold.

Custodial History:

Origin: Eastern Mediterranean (Constantinople?).

Provenance:

Written in either 1079 or 1088: according to an inscription on the earlier wooden cover. Likely written at Constantinople: Cavallo 2000, p. 235, identifies the hand with that of Μιχαὴλ (Repertorium 1A, 289), a monk at the monastery of Christ Panoikteirmon.

Monastery of St Stephen the Protomartyr and Archdeacon in Pogoniane (Epirus), owned in 1668: inscription on wooden cover: +Το παρον βιβλιον υπαρ/χει της Μονης του αγιου προ/τομαρτυρος και αρχιδιακο/νου Στεφανου, εις την πογωνιανην και εινε αφου της υγραφτε/ εως την σημερον χρονοι/ πεντακοσιαογδοοντα/ και εινε του αγιου γρηγοριου του θεολογου διδαχαης πανυ οραι/ αις εγραψα στην σημερον/ αχξη' εγω η ευτελης στεφανος / δια νη φαινεται εως δοξαν Θεον αμην.
