Henry Purcell and Giovanni Battista Draghi: Keyboard music
- Scope & Content:
-
The 'Purcell/Draghi keyboard manuscript' contains, on folios 1v-12, music by or arranged by Henry Purcell and in his autograph. Reversing the volume, folios 42-12v are by, and almost certainly in the hand of, Giovanni Battista Draghi. Folio 1r contains a musical setting of Draghi’s address in the same hand as folios 42-12v, together with further text in a third hand. Folios ii and 43v-43 contain musical jottings in a (juvenile?) fourth hand.
Catalogue numbers for the Purcell works are taken from F. B. Zimmerman, Henry Purcell: an analytical catalogue of his music (1963) and for the Draghi from R. Klakowich, ed., Giovanni Battista Draghi: Harpsichord Music, Recent Researches in the Music of the Baroque Era, 56 (Madison, 1986).
