MS Mus. 141. MICHEL MORIN’S MUSIC BOOK; circa 1725. Variations on ‘La folia’ for keyboard, followed by eleven unaccompanied airs à boire for solo voice, twelve for duet, and a solo bass tune. Written in ink by two scribes, the first (ff. 1-16) for the keyboard music and solos, the second (ff. 16-24) for the duets. Only one vocal part of the duets is written. The name of ‘(Monsieur) Michel Morin’ is written repeatedly on ff. ii and 24, in one case as ‘Monstre marin Espece de Mathematique’. The airs are for soprano unless stated otherwise. Purchased from Lisa Cox, 5 March 1998.

1. ff. 1-11. ‘Follia’. 24 variations on ‘La folia’, for keyboard. The version of the melody is the same as that used in Corelli’s Sonata op.5 no.12.

3. f. 12. ‘Que vois-je grands dieux c’est l’aurore’, ‘air a Boire de Mr. Guinard 1721’. For bass.
4. f. 12v. ‘Enchanté du beau feu’, ‘Air nouveau’.
5. f. 13. ‘Plus belle que l’aurore’, ‘Brunette 1721’.
