A. Letters from Roger Quilter to the baritone Harold Child and his wife, the pianist Stella Child; 1939-1953. Some of the letters relate to performances of Quilter’s works given by him and the Childs; others mention Quilter’s illnesses and his difficulties in composing. With some recital programmes and press cuttings (ff. 22-31). Purchased from Lewis Foreman acting on behalf of the Broadheath Singers, 20 June 2003.

C. Letters from Sir Adrian Boult to the musicologist and conductor Nigel Simeone; 1972-1979. Partly typewritten. Boult recollects his performances of works including Vaughan Williams’s ‘London’ Symphony, Bartók’s Piano concerto no.2 and Joachim’s arrangement of Schubert’s Sonata in C for piano, 4 hands (D.812), and recalls working with the violinists Adolf Busch and Arnold Rosé. G. Correspondence relating to the childhood illness of the composer Constant Lambert; 1916-1924. Much of the correspondence is between Lambert’s parents and Dr G. E. Friend, the Medical Officer of Christ’s Hospital, and concerns Lambert’s near-fatal attack of streptococcal septicaemia in 1916 and subsequent complications. With a medical interrogatory signed by Lambert’s mother and annotated by Friend, probably compiled in 1915 (f. 149). See T.
