MS Mus. 1122. Iphigénie en Aulide: Arrangement by Richard Wagner (WWV 77) of Christoph Willibald Gluck’s opera; circa 1850. Ink copy of full score. German. Wagner’s arrangement was first performed in Dresden at the Königlich Sächsisches Hoftheater, Dresden on 24 Feb. 1847, with Wagner conducting. No autograph of the arrangement appears to exist, though a printed full score and vocal score of the original, held in the Nationalarchiv der Richard-Wagner-Stiftung, Bayreuth, both have autograph annotations. Three manuscripts, all described as lost, are mentioned in Verzeichnis der musikalischen Werke Richard Wagners und ihrer Quellen (Mainz: 1986). The manuscript is written in at least three different hands and contains conductor’s markings, including cuts. One hand has been identified as that of the conductor and composer Robert Heger. Many of his annotations bear his autograph initial or his surname. The verso of f. 261 has the stamp of the Königliche Schauspiele, Berlin. Supplied on loose leaves (ff. 258-260r) is Wagner’s second version of the overture with concert ending. Purchased from Lisa Cox, 19 Oct. 2006.
ff. 261. 355 x 260mm. 20th cent. half-leather binding with marbled boards.
